How we are building a tool with and for product teams
Overview
Screeb combines analytics, in-app surveys, in-app messages and releases management, offering companies the ultimate toolkit to consistently deliver better experiences.
I began collaborating with them from the start and typically assist them twice a year in developing new features.
My work with Screeb has usually two sides
design the platform
design the in-app messages, used by Screeb users’s clients.
This last 2 years, we worked specifically on two new cool features:
Session recordings
New interaction format
Process
As the sole designer on this project (and across all my collaborations with Screeb as a freelance), I worked closely with the lead Product Manager to define the problem and scope. Once I explored and shaped some initial directions, we brought a developer into the loop early, turning the conversation into a collaboration that helped us move efficiently from concept to solution.
We always aim to validate our ideas with Screeb’s current users. For the Session recording feature, we ran multiple user tests using Figma prototypes during live video calls.
Session recording
Screeb’s vision is to build the most advanced Product-Led User Research platform. When PMs want to improve their product, they must have quantitative and qualitative information to make the right decision.
Session recordings can be a great asset to do that, as they help PMs to see how people behave in their product, spot issues in the journey, and visually share insights with the rest of the company.
What do we need to provide?
A way to naturally observe users’ behaviour.
Ways to spot frictions, experience issues and bugs.
Ways to know which sessions you should watch first
Ability to select specific parts of the product (events) and not only all recordings. Same with the ability to select specific users (properties).
Ability to share recordings
Via a link
During watch parties within the company
A lightweight technical deployment with minimum impact on app perf + privacy respect.
As usual, my process begins with a benchmark and some wireframes, which help clear my mind and generate new ideas (done on Figjam).
New interaction format
From ideation to post-delivery iterations, Product teams need to evaluate ideas, announce updates, guide their users and collect highly contextual reactions to build better products.
Today, Screeb can only partially help to do that. Our surveys are stuck at the bottom of the screen and so are not fit to collect highly contextual feedback. They can’t really guide users either, since you can’t build “multiple-pages scenarios”. And our format are not great to make announcements.
We want to provide new formats, both for web and mobile apps, to better evaluate ideas, announce updates, guide users and collect contextual reactions. Formats that will complete surveys.
The website on the background is not part of the project, only the “announcement” element on the front.
